Floriday Key Largo Dive Trip 06 Photos (Jun 08~12, 2006)

Story behind the trip:
Some time between Febuary and April, Kwanza and Kyle (my co-workers) came to my cube in one of the Friday afternoon to chat. They started to ask me if I were interested to go for scuba dive. Many thought came to my mind, I miss swimming in water, but I'm not a good swimmer; I never been to Florida, and they talked about Floriday Key which I never heard of; I tried ski, should I try another foreign activity?....
At some point I just say 85% sure to go probably because I was in good mood because it was a Friday. Few weeks later 85% sure become 95% sure. Then when I start shopping for house it became "not sure" and "wait too see how the scuba dive class goes first" since I need to save money for house. A week or so before our first scuba class, the gang have to lock in the air ticket for a good price, so I went ahead to put my name down for the air ticket.

First day of scuba class is totally not what I expected.... I can't tread water, and it's a must skill to pass the scuba dive certification!!!!! Those who don't know what trade water is, trade water is basically kicking your leg and moving your hand simultaneously while you're on the surface of water, and doing so to keep you afloat. I can't back out from the whole thing since I already commited to a $200+ air ticket. To make the trip happen, I had to learn and practice tread water in the next couple weeks. Somehow I ended up at YMCA's pool since they're the only one that have 12' deep of pool... so, yup, I have been to the Y!

The PADI scuba dive consist of three section, textbook, confined dive (pool session) and open water dive (real dive environment). We (Jared, Kwanza and I) did our classroom and pool dive in Kansas City to learn the theory and basic technique like clear the mask when it gets fog, putting together the equipment, safety etc. So one of our main goal for this trip is to complete the open water dive and get your lifetime certification, here go the adventure.....

Second dive day
During our first dive day, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had a Canon weather proof camera which I read that people dive with it and have no problem. I thought what the hack since I don't really want to keep that stone age 35mm camera, so I dived with it to see if it works. Well, it drown and I had to burry it in a dumpster. I went out and bought a plastic camera with underwater case and took the following pictures. I didn't take many photos because the 2nd day weather wasn't cooperating, I got seasick from the rough boat and sausage/bacon breakfast so I just want to dive and go back to motel to rest.

Train rack site1 (Washington)

Description: We were still doing our open water session when we dive this site. It's very clear in that morning. The diver with the yellow fin was the instructor, Pat. The bar looking thing is a train track.

Bad afternoon dive9

Description: Swimming with small fishes. It's funny to see the fish actually pause to wait for the current to retreive when you're swimming against the current. Those fish just stay still with their big eye open and look at you.

Description: Look out for shark! No, Wade was asking me to get close to the gang so he can snap a Kodak moment for the gang.

Third dive day
It rained on third day morning. I felt better but didn't take my camera in the first morning dive. It was because I couldn't sink so I had to swim back to the boat to get more weight. It was a rough morning, I got tired from swimming back to the boat so I decided to leave the camera on the boat when I jump back to the water to meet up with the gang.

During the second dive in that morning, we choose a more shallow area to dive which has better visibility. Therefore the picture is much better. Too bad my camera was running out of film.
